Tactical voting in Surbiton

Ok, not everyone will agree with the politics here, but I just thought I'd inspire a bit of life into this discussion group.

In the forthcoming elections the seats held by Edward Davey (MP, Kingston and Surbiton, Liberal Democrat) and Roger Casale (MP-Lab, Wimbledon) are being threatened by William Hague's candidates. To ensure that Hague does not regain Southwest London, I am encouraging LibDem and Labour supporters to vote tactically. If the Labour supporters in Kingston and Surbiton vote for Edward Davey and the LibDem supporters in Wimbledon vote for Roger Casale, both MPs will hold their seats and we will help avoid the nightmare of Hague in Number Ten.

Council Tax in Surbiton

I moved to the area August 1999 from Balham - Surbiton is a great place to live ( shopping eating, commuting), but the C/tax is farcical - its double the amount we had paid under Wandsworth Council , and the services the council provides are a Joke compared to W/worth .
TheC/tax is going up again this year by almost 10% - any got any comments on this . I,m not a political animal , but this issue is becoming a real bugbear .

I think Allegro (up until recently called Fortunes) is great.

Mad Hatters

A new pub has opened up to the Ewell Road called Mad Hatters. It was formerly a pub but has laid derelict for a couple a years.

I guess it's good to see an old building done and provide a bit a life and trade from that end of town. But it's a bit too much of a theme pub for my liking. I bet they'll change it within a couple of years

Steam Trains in Surbiton

Every wednesday night until November a steam train will be passing through Surbiton.

This is the Cathedrals Express which runs every Wednesday til November from Victoria to Canterbury. In the evening it returns to base on the Mid-Hants Railway at Alton, passing through Surbiton at 10.15 approx.

Seeing a steam train at this speed is very impressive for a person who wasn't around to see them 1st time around.

Hi All

Amazing that another 12 peole are interested in chatting about Surbiton.

I'm new to the list so just wanted to say Hi.

I've been living in Melbourne Australia for the last 17 years but I was born and raised in sunny Surbiton. I do get to go home (yep still call it home) every 5 years or so. Everytime I come back something changes - looks like I've got waitrose to look forward to on my next visit.

My parents live in Ewell Road (Tolworth end) and they are thinking of moving so I had a a bit of a surf to look at real estate prices. Oh my gawd how does anyone afford to live in Surbiton anymore !!!!! I think my parents place is now worth 10 times what they paid for it 20 years ago.
