Parts of Surbiton were cordoned off at the weekend as police officers dealt with a bomb scare.
At 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon, Surbiton residents were evacuated from their homes after reports that an unexploded World War Two bomb had been found in a garden in Victoria Avenue.
Officers from the bomb squad arrived at the scene and redirected traffic as they closed off parts of Upper Brighton Road, Victoria Road, Portsmouth Road, Balaclava Road, Electric Parade and Endsleigh Gardens.
A large metal item was uncovered by a gardener working in the back of one of the properties.
Officers left just after 4pm, when it was revealed that the item was not a bomb, but a large metal sheet buried deep in the ground.
During the cordon, several residents and businesses were evacuated.
