Tolworth Broadway
Work will start to improve a south-London high street for shoppers and cyclists next week, Kingston Council have announced.
Tolworth Broadway, Kingston, is to have its obstructive central reservation barrier removed as part of a £3million “greenway” scheme to make the street “a thriving place”. The plans involve adding improved lighting and paving, new trees and benches, and will introduce a 20mph speed limit.
Step-free crossings will also be built and new loading bays for shops either side of the road will be created. Work starts next Monday (March 11). The scheme, jointly funded by Kingston Council and Transport for London, will be phased over six months to minimise disruption.
Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee chair Councillor Malcolm Self said the improvements were “long-awaited” but would be good for the environment as well as boost the local economy.
The plans will be on show at Tolworth Tower on Wednesday, March 13 from 3-7pm, the council said.
