Cross-country ride in memory of loving daughter

A father and son duo will be cycling across the country in memory of a loving daughter and sister who died from a rare DNA disease earlier this year.

Just a year after marrying her childhood sweetheart, wheelchair bound Jyoti Bruce died aged 23, having suffered from Mitochondrial Disease for more than half of her life.

Her brother, Surbiton man Kelpesh Patel, 32 and her father Suresh Patel, 54, from Leicester, have now made it their lifelong mission to continue fundraising and create more awareness of the illness.

Together they aim to raise £5,000 for the Lilly Foundation, a charity committed to finding a cure for Mitochondrial Disease.
The pair will cycle for three days straight during the August bank holiday weekend at 60 mile stints through Hadrian’s Cycleway across Tyneside which totals more than 174 miles.

Mr Patel who shared an extremely close relationship with his sister has been trying to get into shape ahead of his first long distance cycle ride.

Mr Patel’s workplace Etihad Airways has already donated a signed Harlequins shirt for the cause, which will be auctioned to the highest bidder.
