Actor Adrian Lukis talks about Shakespeare at The Rose

Surbiton resident and actor Adrian Lukis is appearing in The Rose Theatre's homegrown production of As You Like It from Friday.

Rupert Basham speaks to him about opening night nerves, Shakespeare and what it's like to perform at his local theatre.

AS a star of stage and screen Adrian Lukis is used to spending time away from home whilst touring and filming.

However his latest role as Jacques, in the home grown production of Shakespeare's As You Like It, sees him grace the stage of The Rose Theatre in Kingston for the third time under the direction of the the theatre's artistic director Stephen Unwin, after successful runs in Hayfever and The Winslow Boy.

As a Surbiton resident, Mr Lukis relishes the opportunity to perform at The Rose, not only because it's his local theatre but also because he can cycle to work.

He said: "Being at The Rose is fantastic, I love it. Stephen asked me to do the play as I've done two other shows with him and I'm happy that he wanted to work with me again.

"I love this area and I don't think there are many actors that get to cycle along the river to get to rehearsals.

"It is a fantastic theatre and a very friendly building, there is always so much going on there, I don't think people realise. Because it's my community, I feel lucky to perform here."
