Kingston Junior Cycle Club Launch

Sat 12th

The world’s eyes will be on Kingston in 2012 as the Olympic cycling road race whizzes through Kingston. Young people in Kingston are inspired and want to get involved.

A new weekly cycling club for young people aged 9 to 16 will launch on Saturday 12th March at the YMCA Hawker Centre. The free event starts at 11.30 am, with refreshments and presentations at noon. Come along to pick up tips from expert coaches and to collect your goody bag.

Regular club sessions will cost £3 and offer the chance to have a go at road cycling, off-road racing, time trials and obstacle courses. All participants need is a bike (any type), a helmet and enthusiasm for cycling. One of the first challenges will be to come up with a catchier name for the Club!

The YMCA Hawker Centre is ideally located on the Thames cycle path and around the corner from Richmond Park. With both grassy areas and tarmac surfaces, it will prove a versatile venue for practising all sorts of bike skills.

The Club is an initiative run between the Active Kingston Team (Sports Development at RBK) and Kingston School Sports Partnership with partners such as YMCA London South West and the RBK Climate Change and Sustainable Travel Group who run Bikeability training in local schools.
