The Stanley Picker Gallery at Kingston University is delighted to invite you to These Hands Are For Making - an exhibition of artwork made in collaboration by local children from King Athelstan Primary School, Shrewsbury House Preparatory School and the Stanley Picker Gallery Art Club. Each group enrolled on a series of workshops at the gallery as part of our Participation Programme, and their resulting exhibited artwork has been inspired by Martin Westwood’s sculptural exhibition, These Hands Are Models’, which is open at the gallery until 26 November 2011.

Children explored Martin Westwood’s exhibition and responded by making their own collages, drawings and sculptures out of clay. They visited Martin Westwood’s studio and Kingston University’s ceramic workshop, questioned professional sculptor Rebecca Wilson and learnt about techniques such as extruding and press-moulding before using them to create their own, unique artworks. Finally groups collaborated to design a group installation ready for exhibition!

The Stanley Picker Gallery team has been extremely impressed by the creativity, open-mindedness and team work displayed by all and hope that you will join us for These Hands Are For Making in celebrating the achievements of everyone involved.
