Jerome Kern once famously said of his fellow composer: ‘Irving Berlin has no place in American music – he is American music!’ The same could perhaps have been said of him, or of George Gershwin, Cole Porter or Rodgers & Hammerstein – and all those wonderful songwriters are the subjects of an illustrated talk at the Cornerhouse by Simon Hancock on Wednesday June 2nd. Simon will speak about the lives of these Broadway ‘greats’ and sing songs by each of them, with a special guest appearance from the ‘Sinatra of Surbiton’, Jason Philps!
