Local team knowledge brings in arrests

In April the Berrylands and Alexandra Safer Neighbourhood teams made a number of arrests following an incident of Criminal Damage and Assault on a shopkeeper in Berrylands.

In store CCTV captured individuals kicking and breaking the front window of the shop whilst others assaulted the owner.

The majority of the group, including two of the three responsible for the assault and breaking the window were identified from the CCTV by Berrylands and Alexandra team members. Both of the identified persons were subsequently arrested.

The team were able to identify and arrest the remaining offender, who was wearing school uniform in the CCTV footage, through their close contacts with the School.

“This was a disturbing crime especially due to the number of persons involved”, says Sgt Forsyth, who heads the two Safer Neighbourhood teams.

“Local policing knowledge has proved itself on this occasion by identifying the individuals involved and arresting the subjects”
