Surbiton firefighters were called to a chimney fire in Tolworth last night.
At about 8.30pm a passer-by reported seeing flames shoot from the chimney of a semi-detached house in Fullers Way North.
A wood fire in the hearth had set light to soot inside the chimney, crew manager Ben Cain said. Firefighters spent about an hour at the house, and no one was hurt, he added. He said residents should have their chimneys checked regularly and install a flue liner if they plan to use their fire often.
