Bridge attacks caught on CCTV

Homeless man attacks two female students on station footbridge.

Wearing a suit and tie, Slovenian Marko Kontestabile hit the two 20-year-olds over the head with a bottle as they came back from a shopping trip. The homeless 21-year-old then walked calmly away with their bags as a member of the public rushed to their aid.

Detective Sergeant Tony Burman, of the British Transport Police, said: "Kontestabile is seen on CCTV pulling the bottle from his jacket and striking both women over the head and then grabbing their shopping."

The day after the attack, which happened in January, police were called by YMCA staff who saw a man matching the description of the offender using the internet.

Police are also asking for help identifying two suspects involved in another bottle attack on 15-year-old boy that happened at the station in November last year.

Comments

As mentioned on another thread, closer regulation of the YMCA would stop the vast majority of this type of offender coming to Surbiton.

Not sure what you are suggesting - that we the public vet who can and can't stay at the YMCA on a day by day basis? It seems they've done a pretty good job in vetting who was staying there already - they were the ones that caught him out.
