A new healthcare centre and primary school have been approved for the site of of Surbiton Hospital, despite an outcry from residents.
Objectors packed out the public gallery at Kingston council's development control committee on Thursday, March 3 as councillors agreed to the proposals.
Under the plans, which have been put together by the NHS and the council, the Ewell Road site will be demolished to make way for a healthcare centre providing a base for up to eight existing GP practices as well as outpatient care, community services and a pharmacy.
The site would also get a new primary school with capacity for 420 pupils and rooftop play areas.
