Rose Theatre wins community award

THE ROSE Theatre has been awarded for its community based work at the first Kingston Business Awards.

More than 150 businesses in the borough registered for the first annual awards which were created to celebrate innovation and hard work.

The theatre was one of 12 winners and was presented with the Best Commitment to the Community Award, for their workshops, drama groups, free events and graduation ceremonies that they put on at the High Street theatre.

Artistic director Stephen Unwin, said: "We are absolutely delighted to win this award as recognition for the Rose's commitment to the community.

"The Rose is many things at once, an international theatre, a national centre, a regional hub, but above all a place for the local community.

"We're very proud of the work that we do, with and for the community, from free events in the cafe, to youth theatre groups and from workshops and talks to the annual community play. We'd like to thank everyone who supports us and voted for us."

More then 200 guests attended the ceremony at the Kingston Holiday Inn, on Wednesday, November 25.

Business of the Year was won by Genuine Solutions Ltd, a mobile phone accessory distributor, which was chosen for its excellent customer service, product knowledge and competitive prices.

Founder of the company Christian McBride also won Entrepreneur of the Year.

The awards were run by South London Business and sponsored by Antoinette Hotels.
Sir Bob Scott, Chair of South London Business, said: "The event has been an extraordinary success.

"However while we had a number of deserving winners, for me all the businesses that took part in the competition, including the 63 that were shortlisted, are contributing to the success of businesses in Kingston and in the wider area of South London.

"By celebrating success we can generate even more success."
