Councillors have tonight unanimously rejected plans for floating homes on the Surbiton filter beds.

Fire crews attended a home in Surbiton after a kitchen fire broke out in the early hours of this morning.

All three Blockbuster stores in Kingston, Tolworth and Surbiton are slated for closure, according to administrator Deloitte.

The by-election is being held following the death of Liberal Democrat representative Frances Moseley in December. The three main parties have already selected their candidates. Solicitor Sushila Abraham will stand as the Liberal Democrat nomination, while former bank manager Mike Head will carry the hopes of the Conservatives. Tony Banks, a sports journalist who has previously stood for election to Kingston Council, has been named as the Labour Party candidate.
