Celebrating 10 years of African Vision Malawi

Telling the story of the charity’s journey through photography, film and illustrations

African Vision Malawi (formerly known as The Landirani Trust) will celebrate their 10th anniversary of working in Malawi, Southern Africa.  They are a local based charity, supporting a rural area of approximately 45,000 people, including 3,000 orphan and vulnerable people.  They work through many Educational projects and have school partnerships running in local schools, which include Coombe Hill Infants, Alexandra Infants, Maple Infants, St Matthews Primary, Tolworth Infants and Juniors, Knollmead Primary, Christ Church Primary, Long Ditton Infants and The Mead Infants.

Since the generous donation of a 10 acre site by grateful chiefs where they work, they have embarked on an ambitious programme to build a Training Village. Moving away from hand-outs and instead create self-sufficient training programmes that can support thousands of local people and show them how to improve their lives. The Training Village will provide vocational and life skills training, direct to the people who need it most.  Their projects focus on Education, Water & Sanitation, Health and Sustainable Agriculture.

Why did they start the charity and what are the projects they are running to support the needs? The story of their journey can be seen in an Exhibition of photography and illustrations by Gaynor Cook and Adam Newton.  Gaynor is a founder of the charity and an outstanding photographer and Adam Newton studied Illustration at Kingston University and the charity produced 3 books on the lives of some of the children using his illustrations.  The exhibition will be at The CornerHOUSE Community Arts Centre for the month of April with the gala evening on Tuesday 14th April from 7pm until 9pm with a complementary drink, film showing and live music (Free entry).
