Does anybody know why the Railway Tavern has been boarded up ?

Ps Re the Railway Tavern. I heard it was going to replaced by a small motel and some land given up to widen the railway bridge. I picked this up in the Waggon and Horses from an expert drunk, so I expect it is tosh.

I have rejoined this email group under a different email address. Freeserve cut the last one off because I wasn't using it enough.
On the railway tavern, I knew it had a reputation for violence so it doesn't suprise me that it closed down.
Also has anyone noticed that the pub opposite the Jennings the Butcher is being done up. It has been closed for over two years. Does anyone know anything about this ? I hope it doesn't become a wine bar.
Who said nothing happens in Surbiton ! The pub was shut following the conviction of the Landlord for raping a female member of staff. The pub was always a bit dodgy anyway. Sad to loose a Surbiton pub though.
