This is not a talk about Architecture. It is a talk about acquaintances and friends, in and around the town, that you may not have met as yet. Buildings can generate strong feelings and emotions in the same way that people do.

You may like or appreciate some, dislike others and may even defend a loved building if it is threatened or feel strangely sad if a particular favourite is demolished. You may never have stopped to think about it but certain buildings are like friends. They are always there to say “Hi” as you pass and are happy to share their stories with you if you want to stop and listen.

Understandably the talk cannot cover all 50 buildings and therefore focusses on some as an expansion of Julian McCarthy’s second (of four) books recounting the history of Kingston upon Thames.

Tickets must be booked in advance. Booking and further information is available by emailing Paul (paulhowardlang1011@gmail.com). The talk is presented by the Surbiton and District Historical
Society. Non-members are asked to contribute £2 when they attend events.
