Man rescued from Surbiton flat fire

A man has been rescued from a flat fire in Surbiton.

Fire crews were called to Alfriston Day Centre in Berrylands Road, at 2.30pm.

A spokesman from London Fire Brigade said firefighters from Kingston wore breathing apparatus and saved the man from a second floor flat above the day centre. However, London Ambulance tactical advisor Chris Hawkswell tweeted that a woman had been taken to hospital with smoke inhalation: 

Officers are currently diverting traffic away from the road, a police spokeswoman said.
