Hour-long train delays after signalling problem

Trains to Waterloo through Wimbledon are delayed by up to an hour after serious signalling problems.

The failures, between Wimbledon and Earlsfield and affecting all routes to and from Waterloo via Wimbledon, have been resolved, South West Trains (SWT) said, but delays remain.

Earlier this year SWT and National Rail spent millions of pounds to upgrade tracks in the Wimbledon and Earlsfield areas, with a view to improving services.

But shortly before 7am today the first train into town from Surbiton was shown as being the 7.38am.
