Hello,

Can any one recommend a local independent financial advisor?

Thanks!

No,but I can offer a few tips.
Always ask for a free consultation during which he or she should run through all your expenses, savings, aspirations etc, this would usually take about one to two hours if done properly.
Never use anyone who relies on commission, use someone who is upfront with an annual fee, ideally between 0.5% and 1% and check how much they charge to trade stocks etc, never agree to more than £25 per transaction ideally £10 to £20.

I use a national chain and have had the same advisor for 15 years,I "interviewed" several and compared their views on my holdings, aspirations etc and also, and in my view very important, how well I got one with the advisor who would look after me,this cannot be underestimated.

For me contact is usually via email, sometimes phone and with a face to face if I require more detailed information eg inheritance tax etc.

Good luck and be very careful to spend time in selecting the right one for you,i have never regretted it.
