Does anyone remember the Southampton bar under Winthrop House (now redeveloped) next to Surbiton Station. As I remember, on the walls were murals by Rowland Emett, the cartoonist who designed the whimsical railway for the Festival of Britain in 1951 in Battersea Park. Are there any photos of these around please. I assume that the originals were destroyed. Look forward to comments, Roger Duke.

I remember these murals very well which were attached to the wall at long side of the bar. I knew the landlord at the time
of closure and he said he was taking the murals with him though where he took them is unknown. Hopefully they are still safe
but weren't destroyed with the building.
The pub closed on 8th October 1988 and I took the murals with me . I sold them at Sotheby’s in 1990 , unfortunately a couple of weeks before Emett died.
Hi Roger
Could you get in touch with us through the Rowland Emett Society website?
We would be interested to know if a mural that has survived is from the Southampton Bar
