Why oh why is Surbiton Post Office so smelly and scruffy? It's bad enough having to go into the cramped newsagents at all, never mind walking to the back area that consists of the Post Office where there is invariably a queue of at least eight people and it is so stuffy as well. The whole place smells like a farmyard. The post office carpet must have been there for around 40 years, it is filthy and needs a good hoover. We need a revamped Post Office in our lovely Surbiton, perhaps like the clean modernised one in New Malden. Does anyone else agree?

I can't believe this thread is 3 years old and the place is still disgusting.
As someone else said, definitely work going to Alexandra Drive Post Office in future.
And why oh why do a majority of staff go to lunch at the same time as we do? This is their busiest time, they are a service FCS and should arrange their shifts to meet demand, not just shut their gates so there's only 1 stall open. Crazy!
The service in Surbiton post office is appalling. There's never more than three people on the six+ desks so the queues are long. May boycott in future.
I went to Surbiton PO with a passport application form and asked for them to check it's all ok (a service they provide), I was told my photo would not be accepted so would need to get another one done. I felt there was nothing wrong with the photo so chose not to take their advice, sent off my documents and lo and behold a passport arrived!!
I wrote to the manager to complain about this incompetence and suggested their staff should have more training but never received a reply. And yes, the place stinks!
Dreadful service this week at the post office in victoria road.
Asian man servicing was mind numbingly slow, didnt know how to put £2.80 together in stamps ,got the bill wrong ,which I called him up on and then when I said the service was terrible told me I was rude.
I actually had to tell him to get on with it ,he was making me and the now 8 people deep queue late,
Where do they find these people who cant count and put them on the counter at this post office,
It is so unprofessional and they dont care about the customer
Quite agree. I haven't used this place for nearly a year, ever since i went in for a parcel to be weighed and the chap serving did so with his hand on top of the parcel adding to the weight.
Can i recommend you all head to the post office on Alexandra drive in Berrylands. It's a small shop staffed by a very helpful lady and have always had the best service there. Most of the time you'll be able to park your car outside and at worst thirty seconds away.
been in twice this week and both times, rude slow staff without an ounce of common sense.
completely agree, they need to fire the counter staff they have at the moment .The woman who served me put a large letter through the parcel width check to show it could go through, the fact that the letter was 1cm thick at most when the slot was 3 inches deep made me think ,how stupid do they have to be to be the counter staff at this branch? Or was she deliberately trying to upset the customer and give bad service, I was speechless at the stupidity of her.
I wonder if head office post office know how bad the staff are at Victoria Road branch.
Worth telling them as they cant get any worse,
its put me off using this post office to be honest they are so bad .On myhermes parcels at 2p cheaper at 2.78 compared to £2.80 second class, and they are at London at Ewell Road, Its not contest ,no wonder people are leaving using this post office in droves.
I agree, this Post Office just makes me miserable.. The smell, the queues, the unhelpful staff, the fact it is never fully staffed, just everything. I wonder how we as Surbitonites can buck them up... Is there a Post Office Complaints Board I wonder? If possible I now go to Hinchley Wood or to New Malden. There is even a parcel self service at New Malden! What a pleasure.
Awful place. They seem to open and close when they like as well. I checked the Post Office website to check they are open on a Saturday before walking down there one weekend and the whole place was in darkness at least 3 hours before it was supposed to close.
It is also annoying if you try to go when they first open during the week because the staff seem to turn up at the exact minute the PO is actually supposed to open and THEN spend about 15 minutes setting up their tills. To be at the front of the queue, you would have to be there at least 15 minutes before the official opening time, so that is a total 30 minutes wasted which is too long unless it is something absolutely vital.
I know print all of my postage online and just drop it off at the PO if it is too bulky to go in the post box, or use Mail Boxes Etc at the other end of the high street.
I prefer not to waste my life in the Surbiton post office. It sucks! I use Mailbox for all my post. They are always welcoming and very helpful. Shop and staff are always immaculate and I have never had to wait. Not saying that I would want PO to disappear, It is a valuable asset. I think it would be nice if they took as much pride over it and their customers as Mail Box does. As for Martins, same applies...
I agree, I like Mailbox but the last time I asked about posting a parcel they said they couldn't give me proof of postage! So back to the smelly Post Office I went.
have to say mailboxes is a rip off, they put 20 - 30% extra on top compared to the post office price, you get smiles but at a cost!
Mail Boxes Charge VAT on top of the postage as they are a Reseller for Royal Mail. :) The service is unbeatbale
No so worried about the scrufy appearance tho, but the service is appauling. There are about 6 booths, and I have never seen more than 3 "manned" at any time and the queue is often huge, with everyone seeming to be involved in complex transactions.
As always, at lunchtimes, the busy time of the day, the staff are also at lunch, so there the manned booths may go down to one at these times.
Not exactly great customer service
I always yhink it smells of urine in there. I stay on the bus and go to Kingston Post office
Yes, urine is a polite way of saying it I suppose. Why dont they clean the place up? Its disgusting.
The reason it smells of 'urine' is because it is 'urine'
As you walk in, look up to the ceiling to the right of the shop (Martins) just above the counter, you will see what is a leak from the toilet in the room above. The manager of Martins said the landlord is aware but doing nothing about it
Health & Safety laughable when it suits!
I went in there today and after reading the previous post, I automatically looked up to the ceiling. I don't know if the Landlord reads surbiton.com but two of the ceiling tiles were missing, as if the builders were in. Perhaps this post has prompted some action. I sincerely hope so. Especially in this hot weather ...
boycott then until it is repaired. To think it could have landed on me
