This is a great site, knowhere lists all towns in UK and Ireland. Surbiton gets reasonable treatment. anyone can add comments.

Hi folks ... The Good Life was a great deal of fun, I was quite sure Surbiton was the location (I lived in Esher at the time) and now I am disappointed it was a bit of artistic licence. Shame really..... Denise in Spain (retired)
The Good Life programme was, I believe, filmed in Harrow. It certainly was not in Surbiton. The Good Life restaurant was opened some year after the programme as a good value bistro. We used to go there often. Apart from the name, it had nothing to do with the TV programme. It later closed to be replaced by a fish and chip shop which kept the name - but nothing else.

I emailed the BBC website for a definitive answer and was told that it was actually filmed in Edgeware
There seems to be some conflict of opinion
Ok Good site but hears the thing. There seems to be some conflict of opinion as to whether ?The Good Life? was filmed or just set here (note the
discussion board at this site). I see there is a fish n chip shop proclaiming the connection but on discussion they didn?t know either.
Can anyone give me a definitive answer to this contentious question?
BTW I have too much time on my hands these days.
