A “dangerous” pedestrian crossing outside a Tolworth primary school is causing children to almost get run over on a “weekly basis”, according to worried parents.
Drivers are unknowingly driving through a pedestrian crossing at the junction at the top of Tolworth’s Greenway due to unsafe lighting patterns, parents of children at Our Lady Immaculate School, in Ewell Road, have said.
A petition has been started by the parents calling on Transport for London to introduce a yellow box at the junction to tackle the problem. It has so far gathered 262 signatures. The petition states: “A yellow box stopping cars queuing over the junction and additional lights telling the cars the lights are green for ‘walk’ are urgently needed.”
Safety concerns at the crossing were first raised two years ago when the junction was left without a lollipop lady for seven weeks. The group plans to present the petition to councillors at the next south of the borough neighbourhood committee meeting on Wednesday, December 2.
