At 16 years old, a Surbiton teenager has become the youngest ever Briton to climb Mount Everest.
On Thursday, May 24 - four days before he turned 17 - George Atkinson, reached the 8,848m summit at 2am, also making him the youngest climber in the world to have scaled the seven tallest mountains on all seven continents.
The former Surbiton High and Ewell Castle student, smashed the previous British Everest record which was held by 19 year old Rob Gauntlett.
George, who lives in Manor Drive, caught the mountaineering bug from his father Mark, who accompanied him on the first four of the seven mountains. The pair are heading to the Alps next month for George's next challenge - Mont Blanc.
George was climbing Everest to raise money for children's hospice charity CHASE.
