Kingston and Surbiton MP Edward Davey will speak at a meeting held by campaigners against building floating homes on the Surbiton Filter Beds.
The energy secretary came out against the scheme last month, urging residents to join protestors Friends of Seething Wells in opposing the application. A letter has been sent out to nearly 4,000 Surbiton residents informing them about the meeting, due to take place on November 8 at St Andrew's and St Mark's Junior School on Maple Road from 7.30pm.
Mr Davey said he was attending the meeting to explain to residents his opposition to the application, as well to answer any questions.
Members of FOSW will also speak at the meeting on issues affected by the application such as on heritage, ecology and river users.
The development has received support from other groups, including the Kingston Society, who have written to the council describing the application as “highly commendable”. A decision on the Filter Beds is due at a development control meeting in December, though the final say lies with the Mayor of London Boris Johnson.
