Tesco is planning a massive residential development of about 700 homes on the Tolworth Toby Jug site.
But Kingston Council leader Councillor Kevin Davis said the plans do not include a school to cater for new residents. The retail giant finally backed down earlier this year from its decade-long quest to put a supermarket on the brownfield land. Instead it agreed to put forward a “residential-led” plan.
Tesco plans to hold public meetings for residents to air their views.

Again withe the plans? When will they give up with this idea?
They've bought the land. They can either sell it or build on it. There's no mention of supermarkets this time (so far)...
Tesco hasn't exactly got a great reputation when it comes to residential developments - with the one at Woolwich being voted `Carbuncle of the Year'
Agreed.
Will Kingston Council allow Tesco/Spenhill to create more carbuncles, this time in our borough?
From Building Design online*, "Woolwich Central ticked all the boxes for this year’s wooden spoon. A classic case of gross overdevelopment, the scheme is lumpen and oppressive and towers over its predominantly low-rise neighbours....."
"Hank Dittmar drew attention to the role developers play in creating carbuncles. “If there is one common theme this year, it is that of overdevelopment, and Woolwich Central is a prime example of too much for the site, for the area and for the eye. The architect has a lot to answer for but so do developers who overbuild and local authorities who grant permission.”"
Is this the future for the Toby Jug site at Tolworth?
The new Council regime have declared Kingston borough is now property developer friendly and open for business. Hardly surprising when the new Council leader makes a living out of lobbying for property developers. Here's hoping that all new developments are tasteful, and sensitive to our borough.

it will be up to residents to look at the plans and object on planning reasons. We all know the council leader stepped down from his PR company but before then he made sure CNM Estates got away with the worst types of residential over development as well as holding onto land until it made more profit etc. The lies that residents have had to endure. CNM estates went bankrupt but still manage to have a number of huge 30 million pound sites. Will Kingston wave through the Regal Bingo Hall CNM development?
