A Kingston police officer was left lying concussed on the pavement after being attacked while chasing a person in Surbiton – the second time he has been a victim of assault while on duty in a year.
PC Alex Christie, was attacked in a Surbiton street on Wednesday, March 30, after police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle. The suspect was caught by PC Christie as he ran from the car, but he "violently fought" him before hitting the officer's head on the floor before escaping.
The attack is the second time PC Christie has been assaulted on duty after he was left on crutches when a man hit him with his car in June last year. He was paid just £20 compensation.
Kingston police are appealing to find Zakaria Yahiaoui, 20, in relation to the attack, who they said has two gold front teeth. He is believed to live in Surbiton. A police helicopter and dog unit was deployed to search, but were unsuccessful. PC Christie was back on patrol the following day.
