A ‘record’ fake-sardine haul kicked off the Surbiton Food Festival as crowds of more than 500 gathered to celebrate.
The Big Plant marked the start of the event, as residents with green fingers sewed herbs and flowers at the YMCA in Surbiton on Saturday.
The Freshwater Sardine Festival drew a turn-out of over 500 as the event rolled into its second day. Councillor Barry O’Mahony led a crew in catching a ‘record’ number of false sardines, as crowds sang sea-shanties from the shore of Ravens Ait.
The food festival continues with a village fete and dry-hopped beer festival at St Andrew’s Square next weekend.
