By-Election to be held as Surbiton Hill councillor resigns

There is to be a by-election in the Surbiton Hill ward after councillor Umesh Parekh resigned from Kingston Council this week.

Mr Parekh, who was voted into the seat last year, has had to step down after taking a new job with environmental campaigning charity, Friends of the Earth. A requirement of his new role is that he cannot stand for, or be elected to, a local council.

As a result, a by-election will be held on Thursday, September 15.

The deadline for applying for a postal vote or registering to vote at the by-election is midnight on Wednesday, August 31.
