Green walkway plan hangs in the balance

A controversial project to build a green walkway down the middle of a busy Tolworth road hangs in the balance after councillors demanded a review.

Crumbs,a shaft of common sense reaches the councillors, the scheme is clearly hair brained nonsense, the result,no doubt,of some "brainstorming" session followed by a "mission statement" away day in Bali.

The road needs the central barrier removing and the bus lanes and parking removed so that free flowing traffic can move from the A3 into Surbiton and Kingston, this should please the greens as pollution will be greatly reduced.
The north /south traffic from and to Epsom should be slotted into an underpass beneath the roundabout, replacing the walkways which are really enticing to muggers and drug addicts

Next footbridges would allow people to cross the now open road or even better get Tesco site up and running with planning gains and get them to pay for most of it before the site becomes a "travellers" ghetto.

The problem is now that this scheme has been approved IT WILL HELP TESCO and they will not need to pay for a new road system. I doubt the scutiny panel will make any difference if the majority are Liberal. It made no difference calling in the decision on the hospital/school site. That was supposed to be a new polyclinic but was overtaken by the supposed need for a new school. Guess which part is going to be finished first, yes the school as the framework is already up and there is no sign of the hospital framework. I share the concerns of people who think being able to cross anywhere on the Ewell Road to be dangerous and foolhardy and the traffic having to continually being forced to stop a nightmare. I agree get rid of bus lanes as they have caused more traffic conjestion (I live on the Ewell Road) and rethink what to do in place of subways
