Kingston's new cycling schemes cannot become another " Tolworth

That’s the view of Conservative Councillors in the borough. They say residents weren’t consulted enough on plans for the Broadway, and now many people aren’t happy with the results.

On Monday, Kingston was awarded up to £30 million by London Mayor Boris Johnson to create a number of cycle friendly initiatives. The Lib Dem run Council wants to create a number of so called "mini Hollands" to make the area safer for cyclists.

Kingston's plan also involves a redesigned bike-friendly plaza outside the town's station and a new a Thames crossing for cyclists alongside the railway bridge. But Conservative Richard Hudson, who is the Council’s shadow minister for Sustainability and Sport, says the finer details need to be addressed before any building work can start.
