Mixed response from residents over floating homes development

There has been a mixed response from residents over plans to develop floating homes and a marina on the former Surbiton Filter Beds site.

Last week, Hydro Properties held three public exhibitions which detailed plans to build 60 homes, a new lock, a nature reserve and an education centre on the former Thames Water site off Portsmouth Road.

The company is hoping that Surbiton will be the first location in the UK to use new floating technology. Residents raised a number of concerns at the exhibitions regarding the size of the development and the impact it would have the local wildlife.

Some residents felt that Thames Water had let the site become dilapidated and welcomed plans by Hydro to redevelop the land.

The company is expecting to submit a planning application to Kingston Council within the next two months. If planning permission is granted, building work on the site would take around 15 months, with work expected to start in the middle of 2012.

Comments

Anyone know why the developers are mowing down the grass that has grown on the filter beds?
Have they submitted plans and started work or are they making tennis courts?
Or are they trying to make them look an eyesore before plans are submitted?
Thoughts?
