Getting their A-level results is stressful for students, but staff members also have to be around to congratulate or commiserate – and some come in even when they do not have to.
That was the case for Sue Taylor, A-level administrator and Btec co-ordinator for Southborough High School, this week. Mrs Taylor has worked at the school for five years, and enjoys seeing students she has worked with celebrating on results day. The all-important brown envelopes were ready for students well before 8.30am yesterday, when they arrived to find out how they did.
Mrs Taylor, 48, who lives in Berrylands, worked in the commercial sector for 20 years before making a career change.
Mrs Taylor is often the first to arrive on results day, he said, and the last to leave, even though she is not required to come into school. This year the school saw a doubling of B grades achieved at A-level, with almost three-quarters of students logging grades between A* and C.
