A man in his 50s has died after suffering a cardiac arrest near the finish line of yesterday's Breakfast Run.
It is believed he collapsed at the end of the race which is often used by athletes as a warm-up to the London Marathon. Event organisers Human Race said today that the runner had died after being taken to hospital. A spokesman said it was liaising with his family. The event, which has a 8.2 mile and 16.2 mile course, starts in Kingston Marketplace, crosses Kingston Bridge before sending runners past Hampton Court Palace and alongside the Surbiton riverside.
Paramedics were called to the race the junction of High Street and Eden Street just after 10.30am. Hundreds of other runners completed the race successfully, including Miss Universe and I'm a Celebrity contestant Amy Willerton, who tweeted a picture of herself before the race
