Hordes of commuters were left stranded at Surbiton station when two trains terminated during the morning rush hour on Tuesday.
Passengers took to Twitter to vent their frustrations at being "kicked out" on the platform and then being told to leave the station as there would be no more trains.
Pictures have emerged showing crowds of confused commuters leaving up the stairs from platforms.
Now, South Western Railway (SWR) and Network Rail have apologised for a points failure at Wimbledon that has caused delays between Surbiton and Clapham Junction.
SWR have admitted closing Surbiton station for "15 to 20 minutes" at 7.30am to relieve crowding but say the "station remained operational throughout".
It is actually Network Rail who are responsible for the points and they have also released a statment.
