The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) has announced it will stand a candidate in Kingston and Surbiton in this year’s general election.
The party released a statement following Sunday’s general election in Greece, which saw the far-left, anti-austerity party Syriza storm to power. Greek markets fell in the wake of Syriza's victory, as new prime minister Alexis Tsipras announced plans to renegotiate the terms of the country’s £179bn bailout. That led to fresh fears among investors that Greece could leave the Euro, leading to a new national currency, or that they may not get their money back at all.
A TUSC spokesman for Kingston said the party hoped to annouce a candidate in the next few weeks.
