A Tolworth teenager who faints up to eight times a day is taking on three mountain peaks in just 24 hours as part of a charity challenge this weekend.
Former Tolworth schoolgirl student Megan Taylor, 18, will climb the three highest mountains – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Mount Snowdon in Wales accompanied by a friend, a medic and a mountain guide. She is hoping her condition will not affect her too much.
After collapsing at a scout remembrance service in 2011, Miss Taylor had vasovagal syncope with ventricular standstill diagnosed, which causes hearing loss, poor balance and constant dizziness as well as fainting. But the First Tolworth Scout member has been so determined to face up to her condition that she has already taken part in a charity half marathon for the National Deaf Children’s Society. Her three peaks challenge will raise money for Help for Heroes, a charity dedicated to helping wounded servicemen and women.
