SIXTY new primary places have been made available for pupils starting school in September 2011.
Due to a high demand in the borough, Kingston council have announced that they are providing an extra 255 reception places in preparation for children starting next year.
The council announced last week that two temporary classrooms of 30 are being brought in to Maple Infant School, in Maple Road, Surbiton and Tolworth Infant and Nursery School, in Douglas Road.
These two classrooms are designed to take the pressure off the high demand in the area until a new primary school in Surbiton is built.
A spokesman for the council, said: "The council continues to meet demand by ensuring a school place for every Kingston child that needs one with significant investment with the permanent expansion of nine schools from September 2011.
"Work is continuing to develop a new primary school for Surbiton and the additional classes announced last week are part of the plan for these additional places for Surbiton.
"The additional classes are at two infants schools that are close to the new school site and will ensure that there is a local choice for all parents when their children transfer to junior school in 2014.
"Schools across Kingston continue to work together and with the local authority to ensure that parents have access to a school place."
The council has previously announced that an extra 30 places are being installed in Alexandra Infant and St Paul's Church of England Junior School in Kingston, Burlington Infant and Junior School in New Malden, Elingham Primary in Chessington, Fern Hill Primary, in Kingston, Grand Avenue Primary, in Surbiton, Latchmere School, in Kingston and St Matthew's Church of England Primary, in Kingston.
In February the council will make a decision on whether additional classrooms will be needed for September 2012.
