THE OWNERS of a new Surbiton estate agents are going to donate money to charity for every letting or sale they make.
Jim Akerman and Hammad Afzal, owners of Avenu, in Brighton Road, will give a fixed amount of £50 for every sale and £15 for every letting to their chosen charities, Special Olympics Surrey and Councillor Shiraz Mirza's Pakistan Flood appeal.
The pair want to give something back to the community and are hoping that as the business expands they will be able to donate larger sums to help the two causes.
Surbiton resident, Mr Akerman, said: "We just wanted to be involved in the community and to give something back. My wife used to work with Sue Frett, who is secretary for Special Olympics Surrey, so I have known her for a few years, and she was the first person that came to mind when we started to think about doing this.
"It's Surrey based and it's a great charity to give something back to.
"My partner Hammad, is friends with Councillor Shiraz Mirza who set up the Pakistan appeal.
"We are going to donate a fixed amount for every sale or letting we complete.
"If we can get the houses back and the market picks up, we could be looking at a sizeable sum. In the future we want to look at sponsoring individuals."
Mr Mirza set up an appeal to raise money for the victims of the Pakistan floods which devastated the country last year.
The Surrey branch of Special Olympics was founded in 2007 and offers children and adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to learn new skills, develop their physical fitness and compete in competitions.
County secretary, Sue Frett, said: "This is absolutely brilliant because £50 to us can sponsor one athlete for three or four months training.
"It is nice to have solid support from a company, this is the first time something like this has happened, it is quite unique."
