satguru Residents up in arms over replacement street sign.
A bitter row has broken out after Kingston Council put up new signs listing two Surbiton streets as being in Tolworth.
Outraged residents are now demanding the signs are replaced because they claimed it would knock about £20,000 off the value of their homes.
The signs in Mayfair Close - 400 metres (0.25 miles) clear of the Tolworth ward boundary - were replaced earlier this month when the old embossed ones were stolen.
The council has insisted it was not a mistake, and were actually the official locality boundary lines, which were decided upon in 2002 because they "reflect the historical areas of Kingston".

Hear hear! I agree, Ditton Road is DEFINITELY not in T*******!
False alarm, there are no new signs on Ditton Road, only Mayfair Close. The signs on Ditton Road still display a reassuring 'Surbiton KT6'. Phew, not sure what one would have done had one's residence been mysteriously relocated to Tolworth....
Fair enough, but I'm not sure it has knocked off £20k.
Postcode of Mayfair Close suggests it's in Surbiton.
Seems funny that they're so up in arms that they're starting a petition.
...if something happened to knock the value of my house down by 20,000 Id do more than start a petetion - and Id want my council tax reduced too. ...
The thing is they will never be able to prove that this has affected the value. The value of the average house in Surbiton has fallen at least £30k anyway in the last year or so.
Tolworth Boradway is a bit of a mess, but the nicer parts of it would command prices in line with the cheaper parts of Surbiton proper. I cannot see that this will make a difference to prices.
Ditton Road is not one of the 'nicer parts of Tolworth' if indeed there are any such places, nor is it one of the 'cheaper parts of Surbiton proper'. Ditton Road is an extremely nice road, one of Surbiton's most desirable... and it is NOT in Tolworth.
