British Transport Police (BTP) has today issued two images of a man they want to speak to after a teenage girl was touched on a train at Surbiton.
Detectives have issued two CCTV stills as part of their investigation into the incident, which occurred on Thursday, 19 June at 11pm, on board the 22:33 London Waterloo to Guildford train.
Detective Constable Andy Parkinson said: “An 18-year-old girl from Surrey was travelling home from London with her family when a man sitting opposite her started looking at and talking to her during the journey.
“At Surbiton they both stood up to leave the train. After waiting for her family to exit first, the man grabbed the victim and touched her inappropriately.”
The victim reported the incident to police and detectives have pursued several lines of enquiry, distributing the suspect’s details on police intelligence systems and viewing CCTV from on board the train and the station. It is believed the suspect, who boarded at London Waterloo, left Surbiton via the rear exit, and was sitting in an aisle seat next to a woman, who was not involved, on the journey.
DC Parkinson added: “This was a very intimidating experience for a young woman who was simply trying to make her way home. BTP does not tolerate any unwanted sexual behaviour, and we are now calling on anyone who saw what happened, or who knows the man pictured, to contact us.”
