After 16 years of grief, Southwood Drive residents' petition initiates dialog with sewage system owners.
Resident Sue Flynn said, 'Thames Water has not invested. The silly thing is it has widened the pipe at the top of the hill, which we think has made the problem at the bottom worse because there is just a nine inch pipe.'
Surbiton MP Edward Davey has organised the meeting with Thames Water after their representatives visited the street on Friday and were handed the residents' petition.
Commenting on the upcoming meeting Davey said, 'Each year we are given a different excuse for this smell. Last year we were told it was faulty equipment. Earlier this year we were told there wouldn't be a problem anymore. Now the excuses used by Thames Water include "sewage is smelly", "it's been a dry summer", or "the growing population in Kingston".'
