Horse Rangers’ favourite goes into hospital.
One of the most popular horses at the youth charity, The Horse Rangers Association (Hampton Court), has been taken to Liphook Equine Hospital in Hampshire where he’s in intensive care being treated for chronic Grass Sickness. Aries is shown here connected up to fluids and getting some pain relief.
Grass sickness is a debilitating disease. Despite decades of research, the cause is still unknown. The way it attacks the nervous system, and the fact that it is not contagious, suggests some kind of toxin is involved.
Aries has been with Horse Rangers at The Mews on Hampton Court Road since September 2004 when he retired from The Metropolitan Police Authority. He worked for seven years on the streets of London.
Now 19 years old, the grey gelding has become a firm favourite with everyone. Stable Manager, Theresa Barratt, says “Aries is one of our stars – as well as giving lessons, as part of our horse management, he leads our musical ride display team”.
All the members and volunteers at the charity are rooting for a full recovery and are raising funds to pay for his hospital fees @ http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiser...
The Horse Rangers Association (Hampton Court) is a charity which supports the personal development of children and young people, regardless of background or ability, by teaching them to ride and look after horses. Over 400 members attend each week, including those with special needs.
