Suit and tie mugger detained under Mental Health Act.

As hunger got the better of him, he put on his best clothes, armed himself with several beer bottles and then began prowling the streets for vulnerable women.

But Judge David Higgins said he had no option but to order his detention at the private Alpha hospital in Woking, Surrey, under section 37 of the Mental Health Act 1983.

Case officer Detective Sergeant Tony Burman, of the British Transport Police Robbery Squad said, "This was a particularly violent assault on two young girls who were simply out doing a routine bit of shopping."
