The plan had been strongly opposed by the local Southborough Residents Association who felt that the proposed building was too large for the site on the corner Langley Avenue and Upper Brighton Road.
The proposal was unanimously rejected by the council, though the Sunrise Senior Living development company that made the application plan to revise and resubmit it. The company's regional development director Wayne Pryce said they had, "sought and maintained an ongoing and open dialogue with local residents and their representatives, and as such, have been working up revised plans that seek to address the issues raised by the Southborough Residents' Association."
