Re-visited Gordon Bennetts for the 1st time in a while and was happily reminded of the class and calibre of the place! Great staff, fab food, clientele great. An all round winner! Thank you for the WARM WELCOME BACK!! :-)
I think its nice bar good location great for lunch time.Nice people around good and friendly staff. If i can complain its only seat on fri sat sun but hey if its so busy mean its have to be great if so many people going there.
You are right - the Saucy Kettle does have a larger selection. It is more mainstream, though, concentrating on American beers like Bud and Coors, as well as the usual Kronenbourg type stuff. Gordon Bennett has a few different brews - Paulaner, Edelweiss, T.E.A etc that may suit some people better.
I agree with the above comment. It is just a nice place to go for a relaxed evening. The best selection of draught beer in Surbiton, and a nice varied menu.
Maple Road is nicer than Victoria Road for drinking, but I wouldn't say it is one of only a few bars that is trouble free in Surbiton - I have never seen any real trouble in any of them apart from the ones by the station.
GB does not come without it's downsides. It is impossible to get a seat after about 6pm on a Thurs/Fri/Sat night, and some of their beers are dangerously close to the £4 per pint barrier. Drinking in Central London is cheaper than GB, but I am happy to pay the extra for the great food and atmosphere.
Friendly staff, fantastic food, convivial clientele. What more could you want? Set in a great location just away from the hoi polloi of the High Street, this is one of the few bars in the area where there is seldom, if ever, even a hint of trouble. Apart from the slightly dated decor, perhaps, it can't be faulted.

"The best selection of draught beer in Surbiton"
The Saucy Kettle has the biggest selection on draught and in bottles.
