Upper Brighton Road
A notorious roundabout could be made safer and easier to use with a new pedestrian island.
The roundabout, at the five-way junction where Upper Brighton Road meets Langley Avenue, is well-known for crashes and being difficult to negotiate for pedestrians.
Kingston Council plans to install a new crossing point at the end of Langley Avenue, which could be in place early next year if councillors vote it through. Surbiton councillor Malcolm Self said: "It's not all bad, but some of it's not so good. Not all the paths are in quite the right place. We're still looking at making more improvements." The improvements are to be funded from money given to the council by the Royal Star and Garter, when it built its new home just yards away. A similar island was created in Kingsdown Road two years ago.
Councillors will vote on the plans at a meeting at Dysart School this Wednesday, November 5, at 7.30pm.
