A Surbiton pub has re-opened after a refurbishment under a new name and new management.
The Copper Kettle, in Brighton Road, formerly the Saucy Kettle, is serving once more following a revamp. New landlord Madeline Bartley, who worked at the pub for 18 years before taking over the management, has promised a more “chilled out” atmosphere at the establishment, to appeal to a more mature crowd.
Previously, the Saucy Kettle had a reputation around town as Surbiton's problem pub - the establishment most likely to attract drink-related trouble. That was due in part to its late night entry policy and weekend opening hours, which saw the pub close at 2.30am. But Mrs Bartley has promised to turn the venue's image around - and would be reducing the Copper Kettle's opening times.
The new landlord said the pub would also be serving food once the kitchen had been refurbished. And Mrs Bartley is hoping to bring in more people during the day, particularly families.
