Giant Hungry Hippos coming to Surbiton

A giant game of Hungry Hippos is the latest wacky idea from the team who brought you bread golf and suburban skiing.

Anyone is invited to help build the game, in which contestants compete to capture as many balls as they can, on Saturday (June 18) at the Lamb Pub, in Brighton Road, Surbiton.

You can also register to play the following day, or get a team of four together, at www.seethingwells.org.

Proceeds from the game, dreamed up members of the Homage de Fromage club, will go towards Brainstrust and Creative Youth, organisers of the International Youth Arts Festival.

Adam Lewis, landlord of the Lamb, said work had already begun on the hippo heads and the game's mechanism.

The Homage de Fromage club, whose members are united by their love of cheese and bizarre stunts, have previously created man-size versions of the games Buckaroo and Mousetrap.

They also created the myth of goat boy Lefi Ganderson and the giant Thamas Deeton, which is celebrated every year at Surbiton's Seething Wells festival.

Mr Hutchinson will also host a 'Meet the Producers' event, celebrating the best of British cheeses at tomorrow's (Saturday, June 19) Surbiton Farmers' Market.

Visitors can learn about and sample fine cheeses for free outside the Antelope pub, in Maple Road, from 11.30am.
